After completing a degree in English literature I spent some time in the Middle East, improving my childhood Arabic and teaching English in a secondary school. Then on my return to England I spent the next 10 years teaching English on the south coast in the summer, and then in various schools in central London. I finally settled in Ealing and have been happily working for WLES for more than 20 years.
love words, and think of myself as a would-be writer. I guess I’m too busy preparing and giving lessons, and then marking students’ work to get pen on paper too often. But my flat is lined with well-thumbed books, and if you ask me for my idea of a happy day is would be to sit in the sunshine with a book of poetry in my hand, and lovely words in my head.
